Nissan has launched its new, eighth-generation Maxima, so you should be seeing a few on the road and soon, in your bays.

The halo vehicle for the Nissan brand is offered in a range of trim levels: S, SV, SL, SR and Platinum. The 2016 Maxima is available with a standard 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 rated at 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. Also standard is an advanced Xtronic transmission with manual shift mode, sport tuning and D-step Logic Control, which simulates shifts, giving a more natural acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant. Fuel economy is projected to increase by approximately 15 percent versus the previous generation Nissan Maxima, due to engine revisions, which include more than 60 percent new parts compared to the previous 3.5-liter V6.

The 2016 Maxima offers enhanced handling and a comfortable ride starting with a redesigned platform that features the first use of 1.2GPa high strength steel in a Nissan sedan, and a revised 4-wheel independent suspension with monotube rear shock absorbers. Four-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes provide responsive braking while 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist come standard. Steering is provided by a vehicle speed-sensitive hydro-electric power-assisted steering system.

The 2016 Maxima is available in nine exterior colors, including two Maxima-exclusive colors, Forged Bronze and Coulis Red. The 2016 Maxima features new boomerang-style headlights and taillights, LED daytime running lights and two-piece taillights. Machined-finished, 18-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels with painted inserts and all-season tires come standard.

The 2016 Maxima offers safety, security and driving aids, including Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Forward Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Warning. These features come standard on SL, SR and Platinum trim levels.

Inside, the 2016 Maxima is equipped with a central driver’s cockpit that features optimal reach to all controls and a center stack angled toward the driver. The Display Commander control, located on the console, allows easy access of the center display. Interior quietness is enabled by an Active Noise Cancellation system that helps reduce unpleasant low-frequency sounds.

Other interior features include standard NissanConnect with navigation and 8.0-inch capacitive color display with smartphone-like controls, streaming audio via Bluetooth, rearview monitor, Nissan Intelligent key with push button ignition and intelligent climate control.

The all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima carries a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $32,510. A top-of-the-line Maxima Platinum with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a Platinum Technology package, splash guards, floor mats and a premium spoiler will cost a driver just under $40,000.

Servicing the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Standard maintenance features 5,000 mile or six month (whichever comes first) service intervals for drivers who primarily operate the vehicle on the highway in temperate conditions. Premium maintenance is a Nissan-recommended optional upgrade that adds services when maintenance is performed.
