Many celebrities love cars, but few can match the enthusiasm of Jay Leno. When the former Tonight Show host challenges you to a drag race, you simply do not try to pull a sneaky Pete move on the Denim One.
In a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage (click here to watch), fellow comedian Tim Allen is issued a challenge against Leno: a drag race with bone stock cars. Leno begins with his 1966 Dodge Coronet powered by a 426 cubic-inch (7.0-liter) Hemi V8, introduced by Leno as "the most powerful American engine you could buy" in 1966.
Allen shows up in his 1955 Ford Club Coupe, that's clearly been lowered and fitted with aftermarket wheels. Under the hood, plain as day, is a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 from a last-generation Ford GT. Leno calls him on it, and says he'll be right back with a "stock" Camry.
What shows may look like a run-of-the-mill Camry -- it even has power windows and doors that open and close. Underneath, however, is a tube-framed drag chassis with the drive train of a 5.7-liter Toyota Tundra that's been supercharged and fitted with a nitrous system. It's good for 850 horses.
