The AIA is hosting its latest Knowledge Exchange Series Event in Toronto on March 28 and will be talking about issues between the rise of electric vehicles correlating with reductions in vehicle service and maintenance volume.

Cars are going to be equipped with telematic systems that give OEMs the ability to connect wirelessly to vehicles in order to send and receive information, resulting in vehicles owners having fewer options of where to take their vehicle to get repairs done. That means lost business for technicians and potential job losses.

The event is going to be looking at the impact of technological disruption on aftermarket businesses through exploring technical and regulatory issues related to the deployment of connected and autonomous vehicles. There will also be discussions about the battle of data ownership and the issue that the aftermarket will deal with surrounding access to vehicle data. They will also be addressing the shortfall of automotive technicians equipped to handle connected and autonomous vehicles and the need for digital skills.

The event will take place at the Bellagio Event Venue.
