A quick Google search for Super-Lube in Jackson, Tennessee, features a “permanently closed” notice across their business listing.
Thursday night, February 7, the Super-Lube on North Parkway Avenue went up in flames. The Jackson Sun reports that the building is a total loss.
"It was a report of fire in the building, fire showing through the roof in the center of the building," said Jackson Fire Department Fire Marshal Lamar Childress.
According the Jackson Sun, Kennon Freeman, who works at a nearby laundromat, said in a statement that he first saw the fire at around 6:50 p.m. and the Jackson Police Department arrived soon after.
"I saw a thick cloud of smoke come rolling through the parking lot and walked outside to see what was going on," Freeman stated. "I saw the auto shop burning up." He recalls hearing what sounded like at least two small explosions inside the building.
North Parkway Avenue had to be shut down for crews to put out the fire.
“We came up Royal Street, we had three engines and an aerial response,” Jackson Fire Department Battalion Chief Randy Hayes said. “[As] soon as we made the turn off of Royal onto North Parkway, we could see that it was coming through the roof.”
The last unit cleared the scene around 9 p.m. “Our guys did a good job. We got on it and got it knocked down quickly,” Chief Hayes said.
In an interview with WBBJ TV, Hayes reported that no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. There was, however, one vehicle inside. The owner suspects a waste oil burning heater may be to blame, but the cause is still under investigation.
