Kansas Quick Lube Opens for Business Day After Damaging Storm

June 25, 2019

Derby Quik Lube in Kansas didn't let a severe wind storm set them back.

June 25, 2019—A storm came in and blew the roof off a Kansas quick lube shop.

Early in the morning on June 23, powerful straight-line winds ripped through the greater Wichita area, causing damage for miles, reported the Derby InformerThe highest gusts reached 75 to 90 miles per hour.

The winds caused widespread power outages and damaged the roof at Derby Quik Lube out on North Rock Road.

Operations Manager Jo Lynn Lewis told NOLN that the winds took out part of the roof, the rooftop air conditioning unit and their fencing.

“We spent that day cleaning," Lewis said about Sunday. "I'm just glad that it happened when there was nobody around.”

After restoring power to the building, Lewis said they ran the sump pump and cleaned the debris. She said she was grateful that they were able to get quick responses from their electrician, HVAC technician and roofer.

On Monday morning, it was business as usual.

“We opened up at 8 o-clock this morning," Lewis said. "We have a temporary roof on and got it on yesterday and got all the debris and everything cleaned up.”

Though, without the air conditioning, they ran more fans than they would have otherwise.
