Dec. 17, 2020—The next time your pit tech is working on the bottom side of that Honda or Acura, have them check out the driveline for rust.
A recall affecting some 430,000 vehicles relates to a driveshaft that's especially prone to rust corrosion, possibly due to improper rustproofing, according to Consumer Reports.
Around 350 recorded incidents of driveshaft failure contributed to the recall.
The recall is limited to states in which road salt is frequently used. They are Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The affected models, per Consumer Reports:
- 2013 to 2015 Honda Accord sedans equipped with a four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT)
- 2013 through 2015 Acura ILX and 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid sedans
- 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid sedans
- 2009 to 2014 Honda Fit hatchbacks
- 2007 and 2008 Honda Fit hatchbacks equipped with manual transmissions
