Russian Invasion to Strain Auto Chip Supply

An already strained supply chain is not going to get better amid a European conflict.

Feb. 25, 2022—The Russian invasion of Ukraine will have impacts on the U.S. supply of automotive microchips—a sector that's already strained.

CNBC reports that Russia and Ukraine are key suppliers of the raw materials neon gas and palladium. The price of neon shot up 600 percent during the previous conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The chip shortage has caused auto plant closures, slowed manufacturing, and has increased prices.
