Telsa Recalls 595K Vehicles for 'Boombox' Feature

April 18, 2022

An issue with Tesla's "Boombox" feature could pose a risk to pedestrians.

April 18, 2022—For the second time this year, Tesla is recalling vehicles regarding their "Boombox" feature.

According to an article by Fox 8, the recall affects nearly 595,000 vehicles and includes certain Model Y, X and S vehicles made from 2020 to 2022. Model 3 vehicles made from 2017 through 2022 are included as well.

The "Boombox" feature on these Tesla models could potentially play over external speakers, which poses a risk to pedestrians because it could suppress the sound of approaching vehicles.

In February, Tesla recalled 594,717 for the same issue.

In order to fix the issue, Tesla has said that it will perform an over-the-air software update on the affected vehicles, which will disable "Boombox" functionality while vehicles are in neutral, drive, or reverse.

Tesla is expected to notify owners by June 6.
