June 3, 2022—Chrysler has announced that it is recalling certain 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to the potential for hazard lights to flash when the driver steps on the brake pedal.
According to The Brake Report, the affected vehicles were produced on January 26, 2022 in Detroit, Michigan.
“If the hazard lights flash during a braking event, following drivers may become confused by the additional lighting, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated in Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-327, according to The Brake Report.
The NHTSA report goes on to say that the fix for this issue requires replacement of the vehicle's body-control module.
According to The Brake Report, this recall is spurred by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 which requires a "steady burning" stop lamp. Hazard lights that ignite when brake pedals are applied do not fall into the "steady burning" category.
Affected drivers should be receiving communication regarding this recall starting on July 1.
