Penske Adds EV Semi-Trucks to Commercial Fleet

Dec. 20, 2022—Penske Truck Leasing has added more electric trucks to its commercial fleet through a collaboration with Daimler Truck North America, according to Reading Eagle

Penske's Freightliner eCascadia semi-trucks were developed with Daimler, a vehicle manufacturer. Reading Eagle reported that the first of these trucks were delivered in November.

Penske joined a group of of Daimler customers in 2018 to establish a council that helped develop Daimler's Freightliner electric trucks. This development marked the beginning of a partnership in creating and testing other electric vehicles. 

According to Reading Eagle, Penske has an electric test fleet that includes a Class 8 Volvo VNR tractor, a Class 2 Ford E-Transit, a Class 4 FUSO eCanter and more. The Freightliner eCascadia stands out because it has the potential to travel from 155 to 230 miles on a complete charge. The vehicle can also charge from 0% to 80% in about 90 minutes.
