Mo. Class Action Filed Over GMC, Chevrolet Oil Consumption

Jan. 17, 2023

Included in the complaint are  2014 to 2017 Chevy Equinox models as well as GMC Terrain vehicles with a 2.4-liter EcoTec engine.

Jan. 17, 2023—A recently filed proposed class action lawsuit says some Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles have a defect that causes excessive oil consumption or burning, according to ClassAction.org.

Included in the complaint are  2014 to 2017 Chevy Equinox models as well as GMC Terrain vehicles with a 2.4-liter EcoTec engine. The complaint claims the existence of design defects that "prevent them from properly using engine oil and cause the engine to burn off or consume as much as one quart of oil per 1,000 miles driven," according to ClassAction.org.

The complaint says that not only can this cause damage to the vehicles in question, but there are also ineffective warning systems regarding engine oil levels. There are also allegations that GMC has known about the oil consumption issue since 2010, but they have concealed the problem.

This case in particular is only seeking to represent "current and former owners or lessees of 2014 to 2017 Chevrolet Equinox or GMC Terrain vehicles equipped with a 2.4-liter engine who either reside in Missouri or purchased their vehicle in that state," according to ClassAction.org. The plaintiff is listed as Rachel Buchholz.
