Summary
For quick lube operators, confidence in the quality and authenticity of the engine oils they install is critical to protect both their customers and their business. As specifications continue to evolve, programs like the API Aftermarket Audit Program (AMAP) help ensure that oils used in service bays meet the API specifications they claim to meet.
The American Petroleum Institute (API) will walk through how AMAP works and what it means specifically for quick lube operators. Packaged and bulk API-licensed engine oils are purchased directly from the marketplace and tested to evaluate the physical, chemical, and performance requirements associated with their API license. Results are compared to licensed formulations on file with API to verify compliance. Bulk oils are tested, with collection vendors visiting quick lube locations to request samples.
Attendees will learn what to expect if selected for sampling, how the process works, and how API uses the results. The session will also explain how AMAP helps protect operators from substandard or misrepresented products and reinforces trust with customers.
What attendees will learn:
- What quick lube operators can expect during AMAP sampling and how bulk oil collection works.
- How API tests and verifies oil performance against licensed formulations.
- How AMAP protects operators, customers, and service reputations from noncompliant products.
