Auto Business Owner Receives Community Support Following Shop Fire
Just a month after holding a free car giveaway for the community, Mikey’s Total Car Care of Colorado Springs has suffered through a fire–but locals are determined to help, reports Fox 21 News.
Since first opening his business in 2017, owner Michael Chavez has been passionate about helping others. He held a free car giveaway for a single mother of three just last month, performing repairs on a vehicle with funds out of his own pocket. He expressed hopes to hold more charity events throughout the year.
But in the middle of the night this past Tuesday, a fire devastated the shop. Thanks to the quick action of a nearby business, firefighters arrived before it could get worse–but enough damage had been done to force the shop to close temporarily.
“Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, as I don’t know when I will be able to recover from this,” wrote Chavez on the shop’s Facebook page. “If you had an appointment with me I apologize but we will not be able to service your cars until we can be temporarily opened.”
According to Chavez, he and his staff will be continuing their work out of a separate trailer, and it could be a month or longer before he can open his facility back up.
Despite the difficulties Mikey’s Total Car Care is facing, they’ve established a strong bond with the customer base in the area, prompting some to take action by launching a GoFundMe to help Chavez and his business.
