Feb. 26, 2021—President Biden signed an executive order Wednesday to address the semiconductor shortage that has caused manufacturing shutdowns across the country, Car and Driver reported.
The order launches a 100-day review of the semiconductor supply chain. The goal is to increase U.S. domestic supply and become less reliant on foreign suppliers so as to avoid any bottleneck in the future.
“Diverse, resilient, and secure supply chains are going to help revitalize our domestic manufacturing capacity,” Biden said in a press conference.
“Nonetheless," he added, “we all recognize that the particular problem won’t be solved immediately. In the meantime, we’re reaching out to our allies—semiconductor companies and others in the supply chain—to ramp up production to help us resolve the bottlenecks we face now.”
