Jon Ashley said he handed his keys over to the mechanic for an oil change at the Walmart on South Rutherford Avenue on Sunday night.
About 20 minutes later, employees realized the car had been stolen.
The police report states the keys were left in the ignition.
Ashley said police called him Tuesday morning and told him the person who stole the car returned it to the Walmart parking lot with the keys locked inside.
There is no word if any arrests have been made in this case.
