Virginia Tire & Auto has been named one of the top multi-generational, family-owned businesses in the Washington, DC, metro region.

The Washington Business Journal recognized businesses for their overall excellence, innovation, ethics and philanthropy in the inaugural award.

“Virginia Tire & Auto is honored to be recognized as one of the top family-owned businesses,” says Julie Holmes, president of Virginia Tire & Auto. “My father started Virginia Tire & Auto more than 40 years ago standing on a promise to deliver exceptional customer service and dedicated, quality care. Today we continue to honor that promise. Our customers rely on our commitment to car care at our 12 locations and we are even providing that same dedicated car care commitment to second generation customers too.”

Virginia Tire & Auto is a family by birth and marriage and a family by design.  Myron Boncarosky, the founder, created this familial environment because he fully believes that taking care of employees and offering a rewarding career is one of the responsibilities of owning a business. Even as the company grew to more than 400 employees he knew every one of them, knew their personal stories and served as a paternal figure to many young Northern Virginians who worked for him through the years.

This commitment to family continued even as Julie and her husband Mike assumed the leadership of the company. This past year Virginia Tire & Auto celebrated the 33 employees who have been with Virginia Tire & Auto for 15 or more years at a Years of Service Dinner. Virginia Tire & Auto creates careers and programs designed to give the predominantly hourly workforce careers and advancement opportunities.

Julie Holmes says, “We are 100% focused on growing our people, offering them opportunities, promotions, and a work-home for decades."

That focus is reality, as there currently are 20 family pairings — combinations of fathers and sons, mothers and sons, and brothers and sisters — among the Virginia Tire & Auto ranks.

Virginia Tire & Auto and all the 2016 honorees were recognized at an event on March 17 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C. Virginia Tire & Auto is tied for 91st on the Modern Tire Dealer 100.
