Nissan launched its new, third-generation Murano during the 2014 holiday season, so now in early 2015, you should be seeing a few roll into your bays.

The halo vehicle for Nissan’s expanding range of crossovers and SUVs is now offered in a range of trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. The 2015 Murano is available with a standard 3.5-liter DOHC V6 rated at 260 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Also standard is an advanced Xtronic transmission tuned for quick response and smoothness.

The Xtronic transmission includes D-step Logic Control that simulates shifts, giving a more natural acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant. The Xtronic holds the engine at the ideal rpm for the conditions at hand, offering responsive power for passing when needed and quiet, efficient running at cruising speeds or around town.

Fuel economy is projected to increase by approximately 20 percent versus the current generation Nissan Murano, due to the approximate 145-pound overall weight reduction, low rolling resistance tires, active grille shutter and low 0.31Cd, underbody covers that enhance underbody airflow and improvements to the Xtronic transmission.

Like the previous generation, the new Nissan Murano offers responsive handling and a comfortable ride through use of a four-wheel independent suspension featuring a front strut/rear multi-link design. Also standard are four-wheel disc brakes with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and power assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Sporty, standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 235/65R18 tires or 20-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels with titanium finish and 235/55R20 tires are available. The 2015 Murano is offered in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Additionally, the Nissan Murano incorporates up to four cameras (front, rear and two side) and three radar sensors (one front, two side) to provide input to a range of available technologies, including blind spot warning, predictive forward collision, forward emergency braking and intelligent cruise control.

It is also available with the class-exclusive Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, which is designed to give an all-around view of the surrounding area from front, rear and side cameras.

The Murano also includes, as standard, the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors, an occupant classification sensor, front-seat mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with a rollover sensor and a driver supplemental knee air bag.

Inside, the updated, stylish Nissan Murano is equipped with enhanced instrument panel, NissanConnectSM with mobile apps and smartphone integration, Bluetooth capabilities, integrated iPod connectivity and available remote engine start with intelligent climate control from the key fob.

Other interior features include standard Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, along with available leather-appointed seating and heated steering wheel.

The all-new 2015 Nissan Murano carries a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $29,560. A top-of-the-line Murano Platinum with 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a Platinum Technology package, splash guards, floor mats and cargo area protectors will cost a driver just under $43,000.

Servicing the 2015 Nissan Murano

Standard maintenance features 5,000 mile or six month (whichever comes first) service intervals for drivers who primarily operate the vehicle on the highway in temperate conditions. Premium maintenance is a Nissan-recommended optional upgrade that adds services when maintenance is performed.
