A San Francisco-based electronics startup has debuted a new license plate frame that doubles as a wireless parking sensor system for your car. FenSens, the company that created the device, says that it can be installed in less than five minutes and doesn’t require any wiring thanks to a rechargeable battery that will last for five months. The company also says that the parking sensors are water- and dust-proof.

The company also announced that it will sell the smart license plate holder for a special introductory price of $99. A free mobile app for Android and iOS will also be available for the device and will automatically launch once you start to back up. An accelerometer is used to detect the car’s motion while Bluetooth streaming between it and your mobile phone to is used to warn you of obstacles via audible sounds or a visual graphic on your phone’s screen.

Two FenSens models will be available, the Fender Defender and the Parking Assist series. The Parking Assist device starts at $120 and FenSens says it’s ideal for trucks and cars with recessed license plates. However, it comes with two sensors that have a narrower field of vision and can only detect objects that are immediately behind the car. The more expensive Fender Defender, which starts at $150, comes with four ultrasonic sensors with a field of vision that can cover the entire backside of a car. You can also customize the license plate frame with your company can logo, website, or other branding.
