The automotive program at Burnsville High School has received a major boost from the Walser Foundation.

The program, which has a long history of success, relocated into a newly-renovated space this year as part of the Vision One91 changes to the school. But it also needs cutting-edge equipment to provide real-world learning to students.

“Now, with a $200,000 donation from the Walser Foundation, the program is positioned to become the premier high school automotive program in the Twin Cities metro area,” said Kathy Funston, the district’s director of strategic partnerships and pathways. “A program like this will allow students to gain skills relevant to industry standards, and be well positioned for employment and/or further education after graduation.”

The school’s newly-created Engine and Automotive Technology career pathway focuses on real-world learning experiences that are rigorous and relevant. Curriculum aligns with industry standards and expectations so students can easily move into desired careers in the automotive area.

Along with the generous donation, an ongoing partnership has been developed that will benefit both Walser and Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191. The partnership will enhance learning opportunities for students, and support a future-ready employment base for the automotive industry.
