At any given moment, 660,000 drivers across the United States are using electronic devices, creating dangerous situations on the country's roadways.
Distracted driving is any activity that takes a driver's attention away from the primary task at hand.
While the activities include using smartphones to talk, eating, adjusting a radio, and talking to passengers, the federal government's official Web site for distracted driving describes texting as the "most alarming distraction" because it requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver.
