Federal-Mogul Motorparts' "Garage Gurus" will award $30,000 in scholarships to qualified full-time and part-time students who are studying to become professional automotive technicians. The program was announced in conjunction with the grand openings of the first three Garage Gurus regional training centers, in Skokie, Illinois, Van Nuys, California, and the Bronx, New York.
Garage Gurus — representing what will be a nationwide network of facilities offering onsite, online and on-demand technical training and related support for vehicle repair professionals — will award 12 $2,500 scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2015. Recipients will be announced July 10, 2015.
"Garage Gurus represents an important investment in the future of tens of thousands of local automotive service businesses and their employees," said Federal-Mogul Motorparts CEO Dan Ninivaggi. "This new scholarship program extends our investment to the next generation of talented, highly-trained professionals who will help keep millions of vehicles in safe, reliable condition."
Applicants for the 2015-2016 scholarships must be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis in an accredited, U.S.-based automotive technical school, college or university. Scholarship awards will be based on completed applications, written essays or videos describing "Why I want to be a top technician," and other criteria. All applications and related materials will be reviewed by Federal-Mogul Motorparts employees and its team of ASE Master Certified Garage Gurus.
