The North Platte Schools received two checks for nearly $6,000 from a two-day fundraiser event held last October.

Mobil 1 Lube Express and Modern Tire donated $35 from every oil change to both school systems.

"The guys really look forward to doing it. It's a challenge for them to get the oil changes in, get them done right and to get them out of the door. They participated in it well" Store Owner, Gary Jones, said.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, funds were raised for the North Platte Public Schools and resulted in $2,450. On Friday, Oct. 7, funds were raised for the North Platte Catholic Schools and totaled $3,500.

Jones, said the store has been in North Platte for around 35 years and felt it was time to give back. "We've had many loyal customers throughout that time and decided we wanted to give back to them and to the community."

This year, 170 vehicles received an oil change during the 2-day event. "We just enjoy working with the two schools and making a good time out of it" Jones said.

This is the sixth year the fundraising event has been held. Jones says he is pleased with the turnout from the community and the supporters from both school systems.

Funds for the North Platte Catholic Schools will benefit the endowment's "Annual Fund" which helps provide one-third of the overall budgeting for St. Patrick's High School, McDaid Elementary and Little Leprechaun School.

Funds for the North Platte Public Schools will benefit the "Prepared to Learn" program that targets students who need extra help to be successful.
