Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care continues to make bringing holiday magic to local communities both a priority and an opportunity to spread awareness of basic car maintenance to people of all ages this year.

Cottman has announced that it will again be donating its children’s coloring and activity book for the second year in a row, this time to local chapters of Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Girls, Inc. across the country this holiday season.

“When we delivered our first coloring and activity book starring the Cottman Man to local children’s hospitals last year, we were overwhelmed by the response and humbled at the chance make a difference in the lives of children,” said Derik Beck, Cottman’s vice president of digital marketing. “Cottman prides itself on setting an example of community involvement in the automotive aftermarket industry, and giving back to local families, especially children, is an essential component of our company values. The holiday season is a chance for us to say thank you to everyone in our local markets and we are grateful for the chance to spread car care knowledge through a fun, accessible coloring book to as many area kids as possible.”

The coloring book features both the Cottman Man, the lovable character who has hosted his own blog and taken on a fresh look in a series of animated online shorts; and the highly decorated Transmission Physician, the new digital star at Cottman who shares specialized, transmission-specific advice in her award-winning video series.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Cottman to provide girls a fun, creative way to learn about car care and the automotive industry,” said Penn Sheppard, Director of Learning Central at Girls Inc. “The Transmission Physician character shows girls that women can be leaders in traditionally male-dominated fields. She is breaking barriers and resisting gender stereotypes. She is a strong, smart, and bold role model for girls.”

The original Cottman coloring book distributed during the 2016 holiday season featured the Cottman Man on both coloring and activity pages that both engaged kids on basic car maintenance points, and also underscore Cottman’s commitment to giving back during the holiday season and throughout the year.

The new coloring book distributed this year will showcase not only the Cottman Man, but also the Transmission Physician. The Transmission Physician web series is a standout component of Cottman’s broader catalogue of educational digital content. Using fun, accessible animation and themes, Cottman shares its educational videos on the brand’s website as a way for consumers to learn more about common car care topics. So far, the Transmission Physician educational video series has won a platinum dotcom Award, Summit Award, a bronze Telly Award and a Gold Medal from the Hermes Creative Awards.

“The Cottman coloring books are a playful reminder of the importance aspect of being a grown-up: auto care and maintenance. Many young people facing adversity understand the preciousness of this resource, but are not prepared to preserve and maintain an automobile,” said Jeri Swinton, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. “Further, if our families are not educated consumers in auto care and maintenance, they may be taken advantage of and spend far more than necessary to operate a vehicle. We appreciate The Cottman Man and the Transmission Physician as role models of knowledge, with values that align with being a responsible grown-up, just like our Big Brothers and Big Sisters!”

Also for the second year in a row, Advance Auto Parts has partnered with Cottman to cover some of the costs of printing the coloring books to be distributed to area children in time for the holidays.

“Advance Auto Parts has long shared the same values of giving back and making an impact in the local community as Cottman, and we’re proud to partner with the brand on this meaningful donation,” said Scott Krinsky, Advance’s Director of Strategic Accounts. “We look forward to being a part of Cottman’s efforts to give back in the future, and we hope our help on this project helps make the holidays a little more festive for kids across the country.”

The new coloring book represents Cottman’s dedication to the communities it serves, not only to provide trustworthy, affordable transmission and car care services, but also to ensure all families are able to celebrate the holidays as valued members of their community.

“Providing car care services goes beyond making sure consumers are happy when they drive away from our locations. We want to make sure every family can depend on Cottman for a safe, reliable vehicle that helps them accomplish their goals and meet their responsibilities every day,” added Beck. “As we deliver this second set of coloring books to area children’s groups, it’s a reminder that car care can touch many aspects of a family’s life, and it reinforces how Cottman is connected with our communities and our customers all year long, but especially while giving thanks during the holidays.”
