A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drinking while waiting for her car to be serviced at a mechanic shop.
According to an incident report, a mechanic at Mr. Quick Lube notified authorities shortly after 4 p.m. on March 23 of a customer who was allegedly making mixed drinks in the lobby as she waited for her vehicle to be serviced. The mechanic said he was concerned because they had just finished working on her car and believed she’d be leaving the lot soon.
Two officers were close by the business in Conway, Arkansas, and responded within a minute after being informed of a possibly drunk woman attempting to drive off the lot. When officers arrived on scene, the 25-year-old suspect was sitting in her vehicle.
“The vehicle was not running and it was apparent that it had just come out the service bay, as it was parked right in front of it,” one officer wrote in his report.
When questioned about whether she’d been drinking that day, the woman told officers she’d drank about three hours ago. However, according to the incident report, a mostly-empty bottle of Fireball whiskey was behind the driver seat in plain view.
“I advised her of the multiple employees who stated she was making ‘mixed’ drinks while they serviced her vehicle,” the officer wrote in his report. ”[The suspect] then changed her answer to, ‘I took a sip of Fireball, but that was it.’ I noted a large Kum-n-Go cup with brown liquid in it sitting in the cup holder of the vehicle.”
Because the woman had red, watery eyes and slurred speech and officers could see a bottle of alcohol out in the open, the woman was asked to get out of the vehicle.
“Taking into consideration the multiple reports of her consuming alcohol to the point of her being intoxicated, slurred speech, red/water eyes, diminished motor skills and the closest person available to pick her up was coming from ‘Maumelle,’ I placed her under arrest for public intoxication,” the officer wrote in his report. “I believed [the woman] would leave the premise in her vehicle if she was not arrested, posing a danger to the public.”
