West Hartford police are investigating after a mechanic sustained back injuries, possibly from a car, at Midas Auto on Thursday, April 12.

Police were called to the auto shop at 12:30 p.m. and were told a mechanic suffered an unknown injury and was on the floor, police said. Later, officers were told a vehicle struck or fell onto a mechanic.

First responders treated the mechanic, who had sustained visible injuries to his back, before sending him to Hartford Hospital. The mechanic was conscious and speaking at the time, police said.

Police said they are working with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine what occurred.
