Man Dies in Workplace Accident at Monro Muffler Brake & Service

An employee died in a workplace accident around noon Tuesday at Monro Muffler Brake & Service, 1062 Park Avenue West, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office. Charles Thompson, 31, of Mansfield, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner's Investigator Tom Stortz. His body will be taken to Montgomery County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy, Stortz said. An employee died in a workplace accident around noon Tuesday at Monro Muffler Brake & Service, 1062 Park Avenue West, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

Charles Thompson, 31, of Mansfield, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner's Investigator Tom Stortz. His body will be taken to Montgomery County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy, Stortz said.

Mansfield police and fire officials were on the scene as was the Mansfield police crime lab van and officials.

Monro Muffler Brake & Service issued a statement regarding the accident Tuesday afternoon.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our teammate as the result of an accident and are offering our full cooperation with authorities in Mansfield, Ohio, to determine the cause," the press release stated. "We also have begun our own internal review. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our employees and extend our thoughts and prayers to our employee’s family and friends.”

At the scene Tuesday, crowd of friends and relatives arrived on scene, awaiting word about their loved one.

Stortz said Thompson was pinned in what is being called an accidental death.
