Remember What You've Got

May 26, 2015
In the digital age we live in it’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game. We’re constantly looking at what others have instead of remembering what we’ve already got. We’re privy to every good thing that happens in each other’s lives — every gourmet meal, killer vacation, new car, new house, promotion — you name it. If it’s exciting or new we waste no time reaching for our phones, snapping a pic and pressing, “post” But not before we meticulously choose the filter that makes us — or what we’re up to — look the best.Social media

If it’s exciting or new we waste no time reaching for our phones, snapping a pic and pressing, “post” But not before we meticulously choose the filter that makes us — or what we’re up to — look the best.

Social media is a fun way to keep up with friends and family, share your latest news or things you find funny, but it’s also easy to quickly forget how far you’ve come or all you have. Don’t tell me I’m the only one who’s looked at my newsfeed and thought, “I wish that was me,” forgetting all along that “me” is pretty great as is.

The same goes for your business. Maybe you’re established and looking to see what others are doing so you can stay on top of industry trends. Maybe you’re new to the fast lube business and looking at veteran operators and discouraged. Wherever your shop is in the market, don’t forget about your success so far. If you’re in business you’re already ahead of those that aren’t, if you’re thinking about opening a fast lube, you’re already ahead too because you’re reading this and educating yourself.  Having a clear understanding of where the industry is and where you sit — or will sit — in it will help you move forward in the most strategic and beneficial ways possible.
