Auto parts industry veteran Jim Smith was chosen as senior director of technology standards and solutions for the Auto Care Association.
The position also is the liaison to the Technology Standards Committee of the ACA, which develops industry standards for electronic commerce and data exchanges, according to a press release.
Smith got his industry start managing General Auto Parts in Dallas, Texas, in 1983, according to the ACA. He went on to first manage training and customer education at the Genuine Parts Company corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. He was promoted to director of special projects and was responsible for the first data warehouse and the introduction of the Total Automotive Management System into NAPA Canada.
Since then, Jim has held the roles of director of customer satisfaction, director of TAMSII product and, in the last 10 years, director of digital content services for NAPA U.S., NAPA Canada and NAPA Mexico.
He formally joined the ACA in 2018 as a member of the technology department.
“The Technology Standards Committee is vital to this industry,” said Taylor Mitchell, ACA senior vice president for technology and standards. “Its leadership role in the development of ACES (Aftermarket Catalog Exchange Standard) and PIES (Product Information Exchange Standard) has brought incredible value and efficiencies. We are excited to see Jim continue this long tradition and bring even more value and efficiencies to the aftermarket.”
