Appellate judges are reviewing a previous ruling involving a $35 million settlement over allegedly problematic Ford transmissions.
The case includes more than 1.9 million owners or lessees of the 2012-16 model year Ford Fiesta and Focus, reported the Detroit Free Press. The original lawsuit included claims that Ford attempted to blame customers for the cars’ performance issues.
The class-action lawsuit has to do with the sedans that had dual-clutch transmissions prone to “shuddering, slipping, bucking, jerking, hesitation while changing gears, premature internal wear, delays in downshifting and, in some cases, sudden or delayed acceleration.”
Other lawsuits related to the same issues are pending in California and Michigan on behalf of thousands of customers. International cases have also ruled against Ford.
In a statement to the Free Press, Ford said that it denies the lawsuit’s allegations but opted toward the settlement in lieu of longer litigation.
It could be months before judges issue a decision.
