49M Will Travel This Holiday Week
July 2, 2019—AAA projects that a record number of travelers—49 million—will make travel plans around the Fourth of July week. Of those travelers, 41.4 million will travel by vehicle.
Economic factors and consumer trends all point to a robust travel week, which could disrupt roadways across the country.
“As Independence Day approaches, it’s time for the much-loved family road trip and this year will be one for the record books, with more Americans than ever planning vacations,” said Paula Twidale, vice president for AAA Travel, in a press release. “This holiday builds on the strong travel demand seen for Memorial Day, and with schools now out of session across the country, families coast to coast are eager to travel.”
The figures also include nearly 4 million people who will travel by plane and 3.55 million people who plan to take a train, bus or cruise ship, according to AAA.
The organization also expects to respond to 367,000 motorists in need through its roadside assistance services. Those are typically issues like dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts.
Wednesday, July 3 is expected to be the worst travel day.
