Oct. 1, 2021—The owners of two car washes and one quick lube shop in Westwood, N.J., were ordered Wednesday to pay $325,000 in damages to their employees.

According to a report from NJ.com, at least 45 techs were paid below minimum wage and did not receive overtime pay for three years at Westwood Car Wash, Old Hook Car Wash and 10-Minute Oil Lube.

“This consent judgment ensures these workers are paid fairly and receive all of their hard-earned wages,” Regional Solicitor of Labor Jeffrey S. Rogoff said in a statement. “Our litigation and the court’s action sends a clear signal to employers that shortchanging workers and violating the law to gain an unfair competitive advantage will not be tolerated.”

According to court documents, the violations took place between April 10, 2018 and June 30, 2021.
