After a rough start to 2022, unemployment claims are getting back on the right track for the second-straight week.

Feb. 7, 2022—After a rough start to 2022, unemployment claims are getting back on the right track for the second-straight week.

According to a report from the Associated Press, jobless claims fell to 238,000 last week, down by 23,000 from the previous week. The four-week average, which the report says "compensates for weekly volatility," remained slightly higher at around 255,000 claims.

Overall, January proved to be a fairly rough month for the economy compared to previous months. After a strong and continued rebound from the short but intense recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. may have shed jobs for the first time in about a year. According to a separate report from the AP, however, most economists expect that to only be a minor set back and say the economy could get back on track as soon as this month.
