Demand for Parts Causing Delays for Shops

April 14, 2022

High demand for auto parts is causing repair delays for many shops and longer wait times for customers.

April 14, 2022—Shortages are not just taking place on the shelves of the local grocery store. They are happening in repair shops and service centers all over the country, and are causing major delays for customers.

According to an article from WNDU 16 News Now, the current auto parts shortage is taking a toll on the day-to-day operations of many shops, including that of Auto Plus Service Center of South Bend, Indiana owner Chris Milligan.

“I’m 41 going on 42 and I have been working on cars since I was 15 and I have never seen a part shortage like this in my life." Milligan said in the article. "It is just unbelievable the stuff we can’t get a hold of. We’re even having problems getting a hold of certain oils for cars, certain oil filters for cars we can’t get a hold of."

It doesn't help that the market for buying a car, be it used or new, is at an all-time high. The urge to pay for a vast array of repairs rather than buy an entirely new vehicle is strong with customers, according to Milligan's experience.

“I tell people keep up on your preventive maintenance. Don’t wait until it’s a problem to get it taken care of. If you’re technician, whatever shop you are going to tells you you might want to take a look at this, there is a reason that we're telling you,” Milligan said in the article.

Shop owners should be prepared for a little more hurry up and wait when it comes to ordering parts, at least for the foreseeable future.
