June 22, 2022—Crosby, North Dakota, is home to the last remaining Westland Oil Service station in the state.
According to Minot Daily News, the station became owned by Kenny Sorum in 1961, and it offers tire and auto services, oil changes and fuel to its customers.
The location is known as "Sorums". It is a full-on family operation. Five of Sorum's children have worked at the station and four of his grandchildren. Currently, Sorum's son Kendall, Kendall's wife Erin and their daughter Ciara run the station.
“It is fun to carry on the family business and since we are still a full-service gas station, it’s fun to hear the customers comment on how they don’t see full service very often. We are still old school here,” said Ciara Sorum in the article.
Westland Oil Services out of Crosby was a subsidiary of the Westland Oil filling station in Minot, North Dakota, which had locations in eastern North Dakota as well as western Montana.
The original Minot building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
