July 12, 2022—Ford has expanded a recall involving potential under-the-hood fires.
According to Reuters, the automaker announced that it is adding another 27,000 vehicles to a recent recall that included 2021 Lincoln Navigator SUVs and 2021 Ford Expeditions, originally announced back in May.
When this recall was initially announced, it included 39,000 vehicles. This recall revolves around a potential under-the-hood fire risk that can occur even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
Ford is recommending that customers with 2021 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators park their vehicles outside and away from structures until they are able to receive repairs, if necessary.
In addition, Ford is now issuing a recall for 100,000 hybrid vehicles. This recall is also for a fire risk.
Engine failures can result in engine oil and fuel vapor being released that could potentially cause an under-the-hood fire near ignition sources. Models included under this recall include some 2020 through 2022 Ford Escapes, Mavericks and Lincoln Corsairs with 2.5-liter Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid engines.
