Kia Recalls 28K Vehicles for Shift Lock Failure

Aug. 25, 2022

Certain Sedona minivans and Sorento SUVs may be at risk for shifting out of gear and rolling away without activating the brake pedal.

Aug. 25, 2022—Kia has announced a recall that impacts some Sedona minivans and Sorento SUVs from the 2016 model-year.

According to The BRAKE Report, these SUVs run the risk of shifting out of "Park" without brake pedal activation. This could cause the vehicle to rollaway.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration outlined that the recall is due to a shift lock lever and holder component that may not return to a locked position. This would allow the lever to move out of "Park" without pressing the brake pedal. This could happen with the ignition on or off.

The recall impacts 28,065 vehicles. Owners will be notified by Oct. 7.
