Chevrolet has produced its 600,000th Corvette, a thrilling 2015 Corvette Stingray, with Mobil 1 as the sports car’s preferred motor oil.

Beginning in 1993 with the C4 Corvette, Mobil 1 fully synthetic motor oil has served as the recommended service fill for every iconic Chevrolet Corvette model. As the Corvette has evolved to the current world-class C7 sports car, the formulation of Mobil 1 motor oil has also advanced to meet the demands of modern high-performance engines. Today, Mobil 1 motor oil is the factory fill for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the 2015 Corvette Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package, while remaining the recommended service fill for all Corvette models.

“Chevrolet’s long-standing choice of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil for the Corvette exemplifies ExxonMobil’s commitment to the advancement of lubricant technology,” said David Tsurusaki, strategic global alliance manager, ExxonMobil Fuels & Lubricants. “By flowing quickly to protect critical engine parts and withstanding high-heat conditions, Mobil 1 is a perfect choice for high-performance Corvette engines.”

Mobil 1 motor oils are designed at the molecular level and enhanced with a proprietary additive system to provide outstanding protection against wear, heat, cold weather and sludge buildup — helping to keep Corvette engines running like new. Chevrolet recommends Mobil 1 5W-30, which meets or exceeds GM dexos1 specifications, as service fill for all Corvette models and Mobil 1 15W-50 for on-track and high-performance applications.

“The Roar is Born”

To celebrate the long-term relationship between ExxonMobil and Corvette, a special video was shot at the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was released for Corvette and Mobil 1 fans. The video highlights a 21-year relationship between ExxonMobil and Chevrolet, lightheartedly reimagining the factory as a nursery where Corvettes are born.

In the video, a 2015 Corvette has already gotten its first baby bottle (Naturally, it’s Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil). The next shot is intended to focus on a mobile above a crib — again, made from dangling Mobil 1 bottles — but the faux-baby toy suddenly falls to the ground in the middle of the take.

“This is why I leave engineering to the engineers,” jokes one of the film crew, fixing the prop and getting things back on track. A set assistant rigs up the Mobil 1 mobile, gives it a twirl, and the camera rolls. “That’ll do it,” claps the director. “Great job, everyone.”

“The Roar is Born” announces the finished production to the tune of a 6.2L V8 Stingray engine howling around a test track. Besides being an iconic, high-performance machine, the Corvette featured in the promotional video is special for another reason – it recently helped GM cross the 600,000 mark for Corvettes rolling off the assembly line since its relationship with Mobil 1 began in 1993. It’s an historic milestone for both the company and technology partner, Mobil 1, who has been the factory fill and the recommended service oil fill with Chevrolet Corvette for more than four generations of cars.

Throughout the years, as both the body-style and inner-workings of Corvettes have changed and improved to their current world-class sports car status, Mobil 1 remarks that it has adapted and worked with the company to meet the needs of modern performance engines such as the Corvette Stingray Z51 and Corvette Z06.

In the final hours of the video shoot, high-heat conditions haven’t been a factor, thankfully —the normally humid Bowling Green, turns out to be quite pleasant in March. But even as the film crew calls it a day, the whirs, clangs and sparks continue to fly, as more Corvettes continue to be produced at the plant. The video can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/1IJozZD
