Jan. 9, 2023—Labor shortages continue to impact the country's automotive aftermarket, and Indianapolis is one of the regions trying to get the word out about industry opportunities.

According to WRTV, Fortville Tire owner Brad Reynolds has had to schedule customers out a week or more because he is struggling to get the team members needed to meet demand.

Reynolds said he is not seeing enough young people get into the field these days. He also said there is a need for more people who are able to work on electric and hybrid vehicles.

Alyssa Criswell with Walker Career Center in Indianapolis said the school's automotive classes are popular, but it is difficult to keep up with employer demand.

“I have employers that call me every week looking for students. They want to hire them even while they're still in high school," Criswell told WRTV. "Many of them get the opportunity to go and spend part of their school day at a job so they can learn more skills get some training and then when they graduate they're ready to work full time.”
