Automotive Teacher Honored as Instructor of the Year

Juwan Willis Sr. has been honored by the ASE Education Foundation for his years of service. 

Jan. 31, 2023 – An automotive technician from Pontiac, Mich. named Juwan Willis, Sr. was recently awarded the Byrl Shoemaker/ASE Education Foundation Instructor of the Year, according to a press release. 

Willis, a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified automotive technician, was given the title late last year at the ASE board of governors meeting in San Diego, Calif.

Willis’ background includes serving as an automotive instructor and the four-campus program teacher leader at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast in Pontiac.

Tim Zilke, president and CEO of ASE, Mike Coley, president of the ASE Education Foundation, and Brad Pellman, chair of the ASE board of directors all three presented the award to Willis.

“This award is given by the ASE Education Foundation in memory of Byrl Shoemaker, a champion of automotive education,” Zilke said. “We are proud to recognize Juwan's commitment to excellence, providing the very best in automotive technology education to his students.”
