An oil change can easily cost $60. But 70 families got theirs changed for free, thanks to some generous volunteers in Eagle River.

ACF Church hosted its annual Impact Eagle River community service day. As part of the program, they offered to change the oil, top off fluids and vacuum cars belonging to families in need.

“We believe that people are burnt out on religious sayings and just going to church,” said Pastor Brian Cook of ACF. ”We want to go out and actually act out what we say we believe.”

Cook said most of the families served have foster children, single parents or are low-income.

“As Christians, we believe that we’re here for our community to show the love of Christ,” Cook explained. ”Every year, we get together to show God’s love in practical ways.”

Cook said he wanted to demonstrate why it is important to help neighbors without asking for anything in return.

“People are always really surprised that we don’t want anything from them. We have to give money back to people many times because they want to pay us. But, really, we just want to serve them,” said Cook.

A mix of professional mechanics and volunteers worked on the cars.
