Chrysler Recalls Dodge Darts to Fix Brake Problems

FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 105,458 compact sedans in the U.S.to inspect and replace the vacuum-tube assemblies and certain other components, as required. The automaker said that it has received news of seven accidents and two injuries related to the problem.

Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) today announced the recall of 121,000 2013-2014 Dodge Darts for brake problems.

FCA says oil can get on parts of the braking system. The problem primarily affects Dodge Dart sedan models equipped with the 2.0- and 2.4-liter powerplants. Vehicles equipped with 1.4-liter engines are not affected.

The issue causing the recall is the possible failure of the power brake assistance.

The brake assist function helps with stopping distances, so any problems with the system can cause the pedal to feel hard to press and longer stopping distances could occur. Customers who experience such events and/or hard pedal-feel are advised to contact their dealers. Exposure can eventually degrade the diaphragm, resulting in a loss of a brake-assist.

The recall is limited to Darts produced before January 24, 2014. A "pop" or other sounds may identify a potential vacuum leak. Dealers will replace the vacuum tube, and if oil is present, they'll install a new vacuum pump, brake booster, and master cylinder.
