We've already seen a prototype for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 coupe, and now a photographer has spotted the drop-top version being tested. Like the coupe, we expect the convertible to be powered by the heavy-hitting LT4 supercharged V-8 engine.

Notable exterior bits bulging through the prototype's camo include a front lip spoiler, extended side sills, split-spoke alloy wheels, and a larger rear wing. Those new pieces will likely increase the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible's curb appeal and aerodynamics over even the SS model.

While we expect the new 2017 Camaro ZL1 to be powered by a version of the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 found in the current Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Cadillac CTS-V, GM hasn't revealed official power ratings for the muscle car. The LT4 makes 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque in the Corvette Z06 and 640 hp and 630 lb-ft in the CTS-V.

The supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 in the outgoing Camaro ZL1 was rated 580 hp and 556 lb-ft, which was more powerful than the same engine in the last-generation CTS-V (556 hp, 551 lb-ft), but less powerful than the LS9 in the last-generation Corvette ZR1 (638 hp, 600 lb-ft).

Production of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 coupe and convertible are expected to begin next summer to go on sale for the 2017 model year.
