Feb. 19, 2021—A Texas man used his 2021 Ford F-150 to heat his home for several days during the blackouts caused by inclement weather, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Randy Jones, 66, a retired refinery worker from the town of Katy, outside Houston, used the Pro Power feature on his new F-150 hybrid truck, running extension cords from the car inside to power some lights, coffee pot, television, toaster oven, space heater and refrigerator.
Without power from Sunday to Wednesday evening, Jones ran it for 10 to 12 hours a day to keep the freezer food frozen and himself warm.
"I bought the truck specifically because of the generator for my own safety. I'm happy I bought it,” he told the publication. “Some of my neighbors are too, because they could charge their cellphones and iPads off my power supply.”
“The truck gave us light at night, TV access to catch the news and weather. It helped give us a little bit of heat and a good pot of coffee."
