April 29, 2020—Phillips 66 announced an oil additive that will maintain an ILSAC GF-6 specification when added to an existing Kendall or Phillips 66 engine oil.

The pour-in additives are called GT-1 High Mileage Booster and Shield High Mileage Booster.

“Oil supplements have been used for a long time but were never fully vetted through the API and ILSAC licensing programs,” said Scott McQueen, lubricants research and product management manager for Phillips 66, in a press release. The company says that their additive is the first to be certified as such.

GF-6 is the latest ILSAC specification, which is set to become active for licensing on May 1.

The compatible oils are listed as Kendall GT-1 Max, Kendall GT-1 HP Elite, Kendall GT-1 High Performance, and Phillips 66 Shield Valor and Phillips 66 Shield Choice. Through a spokeswoman, McQueen told NOLN that those oils would meet GF-6 on their own.

He also said that the additives were formulated specifically for those oils and haven't been tested with other brands.
