Premium synthetic lubricant manufacturer, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil, Royal Purple®, awarded one driver in each of the three Mazda Road to IndySeries with the Royal Purple “Slickest Pass” Award which included a $5,000 check to aid each driver in reaching their goal of racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500. Royal Purple presented the awards to Patricio O’Ward, Calvin Ming and Sting Ray Robb at the September 3 Road to Indy awards banquet.
Each driver participating in the Mazda Road to Indy was qualified to enter the 2018 “Slickest Pass” competition. For the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda, each driver submitted a video clip of their best pass in the series to Royal Purple for a chance to be considered. Sting Ray Robb received the “Slickest Pass” for the Pro Mazda Series while Calvin Ming received the bonus check in the USF2000 Series. Patricio O’Ward was the winner in Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires and won as a result of a vote held on Royal Purple’s social media channels.
“I think the Royal Purple Slickest Pass is very special. All my Mexican fans are so loyal and I saw all the votes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram” said Patricio O’Ward of Andretti Autosport. “When you think about a car going 200 mph and going into the first turn at Indianapolis around two other cars, it was pretty cool. I’m really happy I won and proud that the pass was deserving of the award. It’s an amazing memory, to look back on the season and all the moments that make up a season worthy of memories. It was my first oval in an Indy Lights car and it was a really tough race. No one left the pack behind and it was one of the best Freedom 100 races. I’m looking forward to being back at Indianapolis in the big race with a shot at winning it.”
Royal Purple served as the official oil for the 2018 Mazda Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires for the third consecutive year.
“The Mazda Road to Indy provides up and coming drivers and teams a number of opportunities to gain experience both on and off the track,” said JP Hyden, Sponsorship and Event Manager at Royal Purple Synthetic Oil. “We really enjoy supporting the next generation of racing while watching each of the drivers grow their individual racing careers.”www.royalpurple.com or call toll-free 888-382-6300.
