What was initially called in to Anchorage police as a possible break-in and burglary is now thought to be the result of a shooting, possibly from a passing car.
Management with Meineke Car Care Center on the Seward Highway told Channel 2 this that their window was shattered by a flying bullet around 2 a.m. Monday morning. Their alarm, which is triggered by heat signature, did not go off until 5 a.m. when police arrived to investigate.
Due to this, management said they did not believe anything had been stolen, but a large bullet hole in the wall and a gaping storefront surrounded by broken glass led them to think they were lucky nothing was taken.
The police response Monday was swift, management of the auto store said, faster even than last year, when the same store was broken into, that time resulting in one of their vehicles being stolen.
"It could have been a lot worse," Meineke management said, sweeping a large pile of broken glass fragments.
Now, surveillance footage both on the store's part and in the surrounding area will be compiled to potentially identify the shooter or any related vehicles involved.
