Petro-Canada Lubricants has launched its API SN Plus awareness campaign, Expect More, confirming its SUPREME product line is set to meet the new interim passenger car standards ahead of when they are due to be implemented. The standard is the next step in the journey toward next generation passenger car motor oils that are designed to protect new engine designs and meet emissions and fuel efficiency legislation.
“We are introducing our Expect More campaign to educate the industry on the additional protection API SN Plus will provide and how our SUPREME premium passenger car motor oils are ready to deliver on that,” commented Tony Weatherill, Managing Director Global Marketing, Research & Development. “We know that the oils we currently have in design to meet ILSAC GF-6 standards will deliver outstanding protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), but we are responding to OEMs calling for these capabilities now.”
As part of the Expect More campaign, Petro-Canada Lubricants has launched a new section on its website that will act as a comprehensive guide to the new SN Plus category and upcoming ILSAC GF-6 category. Additionally, a customer outreach program will commence in April, offering clear and concise information on how SN Plus differs, the technology behind it and the impact for car manufacturers globally.
Petro-Canada Lubricants’ line of SUPREME Synthetic products already meets the API SN Plus specification following the dexos1® upgrade in September 2017 and work is underway to upgrade the mainline SUPREME products to the new standard. As of the first licensing date – May 1, 2018 – the new ‘donut’ will be displayed on SUPREME product labels where current donuts exist today. Petro-Canada Lubricants is also set to shortly launch a new viscosity grade, SAE 0W-16, that will act as an additional interim solution for customers ahead of ILSAC GF-6.
Petro-Canada Lubricants is in the process of reformulating and validating its full portfolio of passenger car motor oils against the new ILSAC GF-6 specifications. Alongside LSPI protection, these new oils will deliver enhanced oil robustness, maximum wear protection and increased fuel economy that will maintain throughout the oil change interval.
Tony Weatherill added: “We have a clear vision to create the world’s most advanced motor oils that exceed the requirements of all the major car manufacturers. Building on our world class SUPREME technology, we’re in the perfect position to deliver what our customers need today and the mid-term future as we prepare for ILSAC GF-6 specifications ahead.”
The dexos® specification and trademark are exclusive to General Motors, LLC.
