The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the driver of a Nissan Maxima is at the hospital with life threatening injuries after smashing into a Take 5 Oil Change shop office.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it was alerted at 3 a.m. Thursday that a vehicle had crashed into a business.
The crash occurred at 8924 San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin, Florida.
Authorities are working to learn if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Owners of the oil shop business spent Thursday morning sweeping up debris, clearing shattered glass, and figuring out how much the crash will cost.
Neighbor Jay Bortz lives across tells me even if he heard a crash, it wouldn’t startle him.
“Wrecks go one here all the time. Ambulances here all day and all night, so we don’t even wake up for them anymore. We just sleep through them,” Bortz said.
Bortz said the three way intersection and abrupt end of Baymeadows may have led to the crash.
“You see them run lights like crazy and i think if the police were to really get aggressive on people running lights it would cut down on wrecks in Jacksonville,” Bortz said about drivers.
JSO said they are also investigating the vehicle’s trajectory.
Outside the shop, there were skid marks on the curb and a cleared path through dense bushes where it appears the vehicle drove through.
The store manager at Take 5 says he has surveillance cameras that may show the moments leading up to the crash.
