Jan. 31 was payday for the owner of Evans Express Lube at 701 Live Oak St. in Marlin, which sold the winning ticket for the $24 million Texas lottery drawing on Dec. 2.
Texas lottery officials presented owner Charles Evans, 88, with a check for $247,926.51 Wednesday.
Evans says the store has been selling lottery tickets for 25 years, but never one worth millions.
He has plans for some of the money.
I’d like to give a little bonus to the employees and I’d like to put something towards a gas truck that I flipped over, but we'll work it out somehow,” Evans said.
A Marlin resident claimed the prize earlier this month, but elected to remain anonymous under a new state law.
The winner selected the cash value option when the ticket for the Dec. 2, 2017 drawing was purchased and received $17,367,065.53.
