Its no secret that women are generally taken advantage of when they take their car to a local mechanic for service.

But one auto service company in Houston has been working with AAA to teach women in the Houston area interested in auto maintenance some of the basics of auto care.

Since 2011, Mike Kacal has hosted the Lipstick and Dipstick Car Care Clinic at Kacal's Auto and Truck Service on Old Spanish Trail.

"Ladies may not know how to check the oil, where to add oil or brake fluid. We are teaching them that," said Mike Kacal, whose family has owned and operated Kacal's Auto and Truck Service in Houston for 70 years.

Kacal hosted the latest event at his business, which drew about 20 interested ladies to the event.

The clinic included hands-on demonstrations, as well as a question and answer period with AAA representatives and service technicians, and a free alignment inspection and provided a reliability check on their vehicles to let them know what they might need to keep their vehicles in top shape.

They were also offered the opportunity to join AAA, which would extend the auto warranty to 24 months/24,000 miles, provide three free tows a year, and

"We had wine and snacks, and door prizes to try and help educate the ladies and know what questions to ask when a mechanic tells you that you need something," Kacal said.
